After being found with his mouth taped shut and a bullet in his hip, Ace has been retrieved by AST and is headed off to a new home.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The story of an abused husky known as Ace has taken a turn for the brighter, after he was safely returned to his rescuer on Tuesday afternoon., 63-year-old Sam Allen Renney of Soldotna had been charged with animal cruelty for his treatment of Ace, which involved taping Ace’s mouth tightly shut and shooting him in the hip.
Griebel met up with the troopers and Ace at the veterinary office, along with Jesse Hughes - the woman who had originally found Ace as she was driving along Funny River Road. “It was a happy reunion,” Griebel said. “He is recovering and she really hopes to adopt him because we all feel that it’s fate that she crossed his path that day! He survived having his mouth taped shut, he survived the bullet, he survived being chased by a coyote because it smelled the blood.”
The Kenai Peninsula Animal Lovers Rescue as well as Renney’s neighbors have expressed concern for Renney’s other dog, a female Golden Retriever mixed breed. Next door neighbor Robert Green reported that both Ace and the Golden Retriever used to come into his property daily, but he had not seen the Golden Retriever “since last Thursday or Friday.”
