Bexar sheriff’s deputy overtakes pet tortoise, reunites it with owners
The 60-pound pet tortoise strayed from its home in western Bexar County and might still be on the loose if sheriff’s deputy Joe Garza hadn’t crossed paths with it in the West Creek area.
Garza reported the discovery to his supervisor, for whom it rang bell. The supervisor had found a wandering tortoise in the same area in August 2021 and had reunited it with its owner.Bexar County Sheriff’s OfficeGarza contacted the family and learned that they’d been looking for Seashell for several days. The deputy bundled the tortoise into his patrol vehicle and returned it to its owners — again.
The anonymous author of the sheriff’s office news release couldn’t resist teasing Garza about the exertion required to catch a tortoise. The release called it “the slowest foot pursuit Bexar County has ever seen!”
