This leaves many of us at home with more time on our hands and for many people, in partial or total isolation, so we can practiceAs we live day to day, learning more of the situation, it can be stressful, causing a lot of angst about what the future holds.

Everyone has different ways of reacting to all this. Some of us might be using this as an opportunity to lean in to things that help us relax and replenish. Others might be having a hard time doing anything besides fretting, worrying, and stressing about what is going to happen. And of course many of us are doing a bit of both. You wouldn’t be human if you weren’t feeling some degree of stress and apprehension. But I’m here to help people do a bit more of the former.

As a fitness professional I spend a lot of time exercising and coaching others. Fitness is an essential part of my life. I know that movement is an important tool for releasing stress and getting out of our minds and into our bodies. While the gyms and community spaces are closed, this can feel out of reach but I am here to tell you, it doesn’t have to be.

To galvanize mental, spiritual, and physical fortitude while we keep social distancing top of mind, here’s what I’m doing and telling my clients to do to work on how to relax in the coming weeks.Although I am a personal trainer and tell people about the importance of body restoration, I don’t always heed my own advice. I tend to stretch and bend on the fly rather than spending dedicated time doing it.

If you don’t have a foam roller, you can use a rolling pin to massage your muscles. And you can use a tennis ball on sore or tight areas by placing the ball on the floor or a wall and leaning onto it to apply pressure for self massage.After rolling and self massaging, follow it up with a good stretch.
