The full court bench of the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of Sunni Ittehad Council petition challenging the Peshawar High Court’s verdict that denied it reserved seats for women and minorities till 24th June. The 13-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, comprised of all the available judges of the supreme court.
The full court bench of the Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of Sunni Ittehad Council petition challenging the Peshawar High Court’s verdict that denied it reserved seats for women and minorities till 24th June.
The 13-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, comprised of all the available judges of the supreme court. On May 6, a three-member supreme court bench headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and including Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah, suspended the Peshawar High Court verdict and referred the matter to the judges' committee for the formation of a larger bench since the matter required constitutional interpretation.
At the outset of the hearing, CJP Isa asked if the constitution made a distinction between a political party and a parliamentary party, to which the counsel mentioned article 63-a which makes the distinction.
