Prosecutors charged Reginald Maclaren with murder, tampering with a dead body and false reporting charges Monday after the death of his wife and daughter.
East Bay man charged with beating and stabbing his girlfriend to death after she tried to end their relationship
Police said Maclaren confessed to killing his wife, Bethany, 70, and his daughter, Ruth Jennifer, 35, with an ax after he notified police they’d been murdered with a hammer by a suspect he knew. The police said in a news release that Maclaren later dismembered one of the bodies with a saw. They said investigators found him distraught at their residence in Englewood, south of Denver, and were trying to determine what motivated him to commit these crimes. They said in an affidavit that he told investigators he’d recently lost a job that involved working with homeless people and that he was concerned his wife and daughter would end up homeless if he was unable to afford rent.
