Punjab’s Chief Minister inaugurates Pakistan’s first virtual women’s police station,Alongside the virtual station, the CM launches free Wi-Fi services at over 50 locations in Lahore.Punjab’s Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has unveiled Pakistan’s pioneering virtual women’s police station, “Meri Awaz, Maryam Nawaz,” in a historic move aimed at prioritizing women’s issues, particularly harassment, with confidentiality at its core.

Operated under the Punjab Safe City Authority, the virtual police station is manned by female police communication officers who are IT graduates. Women can access this station through multiple platforms, including 15 calls, live chat on the Women Safety App, video calls, the Punjab Police App, and the Safe City web portal, ensuring anonymity in reporting without divulging personal information.

A notable feature of this virtual station is the live video call option, which empowers women to share their location and concerns. The station provides guidance through all stages of FIR registration, investigation, and trial. Furthermore, the deployment of 100 modern emergency panic buttons across Lahore ensures immediate access to Safe City.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited the virtual women’s police station to observe its operations and engage with the Women’s Communication Officer. She has also expedited the completion of hostels and daycare centers for women officers.This initiative signifies a significant stride toward women’s empowerment and safety in Pakistan, serving as a model for other regions to emulate.
