ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday said that, as per Article 41 of the Constitution, presidential elections must be held within 30 days following the general elections.
In a statement, the ECP stated that it would release the schedule for the presidential election and issue a public notice on March 1. The statement also highlighted that one day would be allotted for the submission of nomination papers, with the deadline set for 12 pm on March 2. Nomination papers can be obtained from the ECP secretariat in Islamabad or any provincial election commissioner.
This announcement followed a previous day’s summons by National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf for the inaugural sitting of the lower house of Parliament on February 29.President Arif Alvi had declined to convene the session citing an ‘incomplete house.’ It’s reported that President Alvi sought to delay the session until the Election Commission of Pakistan issued a notification regarding the reserved seats of the Sunni Ittehad Council , which had been joined by lawmakers backed by the PTI.
