However, Pakistan’s skipper, Babar Azam, was unable to see the match through to its conclusion as he was dismissed for just nine runs while attempting a six, caught by Mahmudullah at long-on. It was left to Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed to seal the victory for Pakistan, keeping their hopes of reaching the World Cup semi-final alive.
Littos Das and Mahmudullah then staged a crucial recovery with a 79-run partnership, defying Pakistan’s pace attack. However, Das fell short of his half-century, losing his wicket to Iftikhar Ahmed, while Mahmudullah was bowled out by Afridi after scoring a valuable 56 runs.
