However, with the ongoing war against Hezbollah and Hamas, combat continued along Israel’s northern and southern borders. There was also criticism after four UN peacekeepers were wounded in Lebanon.
Hezbollah, which has lost its leader and several top commanders to Israeli strikes in Lebanon, stated it targeted an army base near Haifa with multiple missiles, aiming for an explosives factory. Air raid alarms sounded in northern Israel, and the Israeli military reported intercepting a missile launched from Lebanon.
Ahead of Yom Kippur, Israel faced diplomatic backlash for allegedly hitting a UN peacekeeping position in Lebanon, where two Sri Lankan peacekeepers were injured, marking the second such incident in two days. Following criticism from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other Western countries, Israel’s military promised to conduct a “thorough review.”
