SEVEN soldiers were wounded during a blast that occurred in Northern Samar, the Philippine Army said on Tuesday.Of the number, two are in critical condition, the Army's 8th Infantry Division said.The explosion occurred at the Mapanas town, in Northern Samar Tuesday morning.MGen. Edgardo de Leon, commander of the Philippine Army's 8th Infantry Division, said the troops were doing community service in the area when the blast took place.
The names of the soldiers were withheld as their families have yet to be informed.The soldiers suffered multiple shrapnel wounds to the body and face, with others having head injuries as well.De Leon said the soldiers stepped on anti-personnel mines.'Initial revelation of injured soldiers that there were four APMs that exploded. They were entering the village where the rebels put the APMs under the foot of a coconut tree,' he said.
