Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender found an excellent actor to play Aang in Gordon Cormier, who perfectly portrays Aang's bright persona down to some of his smallest mannerisms. Like the animated Nickelodeon show upon which it is based, Netflix's Avatar follows the cheerful, unlikely hero Aang, who must become the Avatar his world desperately needs and end the Fire Nation's tyrannical rule.
Related 10 Avatar: The Last Airbender Characters To Expect In Netflix's Season 2 Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender season 2 is likely to include 10 new characters from the original show, expanding the remake's cast. 5 Gordon Cormier Perfectly Portrays Aang Showing Off Aang sometimes enjoys attention too much.
4 Gordon Cormier Nails Aang Being Delighted About Simple Things Aang is always able to find the silver lining. Close If there is one thing Cormier is good at, it is Aang’s bright smiles and delighted reactions during moments of triumph, but also smaller moments. He lights up when Katara masters a new waterbending technique, when they meet Momo, etc. Aang has always been a deeply optimistic person who appreciates the good things he has, even in his darkest moments.
Where Cormier really excels is when he wakes up at the Southern Water Tribe and realizes that Appa is missing. He perfectly portrays Aang’s amusing worry as he agitatedly tries to describe Appa to Sokka, only to be met with a deadpan response. The scene has a great conclusion when Appa reappears and Aang very matter-of-factly says “sky bison” — another line where Cormier nails Aang’s personality.
Aang’s conversation with Zuko is extended from what it was in the original show. The additional dialogue gives him more opportunities to show Aang’s concern for Zuko and his genuine desire to become friends. It seems like he is winning Zuko over before the prince rejects him. Zuko’s character arc is a slow burn, but when he does finally join the Gaang, Aang is one of the first of them to become friends with him.
