Actor Jack Davenport recently said he would be willing to return as Pirates of the Caribbean's James Norrington—perhaps even for a spinoff series.

The future of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is on shaky legs, but a spinoff featuring Commodore James Norrington might be precisely what is needed to get things rolling again. Norrington was never one of the central characters in the original Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and his death in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End would seemingly disqualify him from appearing in any future installments.

Therefore, it would be easy enough for writers to devise a way to bring Norrington back and set him up as a new central protagonist. The fact that he died on Davy Jones' ship might be enough to pull it off , or time travel through some lost nautical artifact could also do the trick. Perhaps by the time Will Turner became captain of the Flying Dutchman and left Elizabeth for 10 years at sea, Norrington was already off living a new life.

Seeing Norrington looking a little worse for wear and on a pirate ship was a twist that no one would have expected for such a character, and it made his arc all the more delicious. The idea of a noble sailor throwing away everything he had for the freedom and moral ambiguity of piracy is the kind of pirate story people have been enjoying for centuries. This is especially true for someone like Pirates of the Caribbean's Norrington, who had started out despising pirates.

2 Norrington & Elizabeth Teaming Up Was A Great POTC Moment The best part of Norrington's down-and-out stint was when he reconnected with Elizabeth. Seeing the two of them dressed as the scum of the earth compared to where they started in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise was delightfully ironic. It made them difficult not to root for, even though it was clear that Elizabeth would end up with Will Turner.
