The Royal Rumble will return to the Alamodome on Saturday for the first time since 2017, when Randy Orton won the event.will add to San Antonio's long history with professional wrestling.
Stone Cold Steve Austin, a Victoria, Texas native, won the 1997 Royal Rumble in front of the largest crowd in Rumble history, officially marked at 60,477. Stone Cold had been thrown over the top of the rope, which technically means an elimination, but the referees missed it because they were preoccupied with a squabble between Terry Funk and Mankind.
Immediately after Stone Cold won the 1997 Royal Rumble, Michaels took the ring for the main event against Sycho Sid, also known as Sid Vicious and Sid Justice. While Sid dominated most of the match, Michaels would knock out famed wrestling referee Earl Hebner, which prevented a pinfall after Sid delivered a chokeslam to the Heartbreak Kid.
