49ers’ Brock Purdy talks about his swift but rusty return to practice
SANTA CLARA — Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” anthem blared from the practice-field speakers as the 49ers stretched for their second practice of training camp.
“Obviously we’re all happy to see him back, happy to see the surgical was successful and he’s 100 percent,” left tackle Trent Williams said. “There’s some rust I have to knock off,” Purdy said. “I didn’t get any reps in OTAs with 11-on-11, 7-on-7. Just the pace of the game, seeing a defense, dropping back, going through reads. Today was good to get out there, go through reads, let it rip.”
Purdy told Shanahan last week he felt “good enough and confident enough” to play in 11-on-11 action. The medical professionals and trainers agreed, and Purdy made it a point Thursday to thank each one of them.“I’ve worked up to this point where my arm doesn’t hurt,” Purdy said. “Yeah, from throwing, any quarterback will tell you, ‘I’m going to ice arm and get treatment.’ That’s where I’m at.
Once practice ended, Purdy stuck around for some extra throws, as did Sam Darnold, to Ray-Ray McCloud and Willie Snead IV.
