Four people are dead in separate water-related incidents in southwest Ohio during the Memorial Day weekend, including two men who drowned when a boat capsized on a lake, reports say.
BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Ohio — a 7-year-old boy was safely pulled from the water after the boat capsized Sunday on a private lake. The boy’s 29-year-old father, who was on the boat, drowned after falling into the water, and the man’s brother died after trying to swim out to the boat to help, WDTN reports. No one was wearing a life-jacket, authorities say.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s an ocean, or one of our lakes or creeks or your local pond, wearing a life jacket is what’s going to save your life,” Bethel Township Fire Chief Jacob KingAlso Sunday, a Pennsylvania man died while jet skiing on a lake at Caesar Creek State Park in Warren County, . Officials with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources tell WXIX the victim might have had a medical emergency, causing him to fall off the jet ski at about 4 p.m. Sunday.he and others were able to pull him onto a boat. The boater says the victim soon lost consciousness and a pulse and they performed CPR while they took him to shore to meet with emergency workers. The victim was wearing a life jacket.
On Monday, a 15-year-old boy drowned while swimming at East Fork Lake in Batavia Township, ODNR officials. Witnesses say the boy went under the water at about 2 p.m. and did not resurface, WEWS reports. People on the beach at the lake formed a human chain in an attempt to find the teen but were unsuccessful, reports say.
