The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council , chaired by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, has declared the province under a State of Calamity following the eruption of Kanlaon Volcano. The declaration was made during an emergency meeting of the PDRRMC held at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol Building. Governor Lacson stated that he is endorsing the resolution for the approval of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, which is set to hold a special session on the matter today .
The following cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental have been declared affected by the eruption: La Castellana, La Carlota, Pontevedra, the southeastern portion of Bago, Valladolid, San Enrique, Hinigaran, and Binalbagan. A total of 33,806 individuals within the 6-kilometer radius of the volcano are affected, according to the Province of Negros Occidental's Contingency Plan for the Kanlaon Volcano Eruption and Pyroclastic Density Currents, 2024.
