Indianapolis local Aaron Marshall and his parents turned their thrift shopping into a vintage retail market.
The 317 Project tells stories of life in all of Indianapolis’ vibrant neighborhoods – 317 words at a timeshop off 54th Street and Keystone Ave. has unique vintage clothing from all over Indiana.
When you walk in, you’re greeted with rows of clothes hanging from the ceiling. Posters of various artists, clothing brands and movies cover almost every inch of wall space. The place may look small, but it is packed tight front to back with vintage clothes. The concept was started in 2015 by Aaron Marshall and his parents out of a small storage unit. Marshall and his parents had been collecting vintage pieces from Indiana throughout his childhood, at garage sales, thrift stores and flea markets.
"They would take me thrifting when I was a little kid and we weren't even necessarily looking for vintage all the time," Marshall said."It was just stuff that we thought was cool and it was cheap."account showcasing their finds throughout the years, and quickly realized the resale market for vintage clothing. The unit that held the Marshall family's collection became a base for the store. Friends and family were invited to shop on an appointment basis.
Now, most of the items in Naptown Thrift are brought to them rather than the family finding pieces themselves and their supply is so large that they still have storage units to house the extra clothes.
