About 3,900 evacuees escaping Hurricane Dorian's devastation in the Bahamas have come through south Florida. However, no shelters are open for Bahamian evacuees in Florida, and the Trump administration won't grant temporary protected status, officials say.

Only a few have been found inadmissible, said Diane J. Sabatino, CBP director of field operations. Officials are making those decisions on a case-by-case basis and among the reasons for inadmissibility, Sabatino said, are prior immigration violations and criminal histories. She would not provide CNN with the exact number of people who have been refused entry. Hurricane Dorian left about 17% of Bahamians homeless, and finding refuge won't be easy"We're not abandoning the law here.

"Students enrolled in schoolsPublic schools in Palm Beach County, Florida have begun enrolling displaced Bahamian students, school district spokeswoman Julie Houston Trieste said. The young evacuees are welcome at any district school and can register at a central welcome office, she said.
