but overall this draft left something to be desired. Outside of the first two picks it’s hard to see impact players in their rookie year. The Cowboys still don’t have a starting left guard, something that should have been addressed.It’s unfair to assess this draft strictly by the rookies the Cowboys selected over the three days. The clubto acquire cornerback Stephon Gilmore, receiver Brandin Cooks and defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins. Their additions dramatically improves this grade.
It will also be interesting to see the impact first-round pick Mazi Smith has on an already outstanding defense.The Cowboys believed they filled most of their holes going into the draft, and they picked like it. Mazi Smith might develop into a really good two-way defensive tackle, but he may not even start over Johnathan Hankins at first. Luke Schoonmaker could start, but he has an injury history. Jerry Jones didn’t draft a QB like he said he would, either.
