2022 election: Q&A with John McCann, Chula Vista mayoral candidate [Opinion]
There are six candidates on the June 7 ballot running to be mayor of Chula Vista, San Diego County’s second-largest city. They are businessman Ammar Campa-Najjar, U.S. Army Maj. Spencer Cash, community college executive Zaneta Encarnacion, Chula Vista Councilmember/businesswoman Jill Galvez, Chula Vista Councilmember John McCann and businessman Rudy Ramirez. The top two vote-getters will advance to a Nov. 8 runoff election.
A: I would give our Police Department a 10 out of 10. As a City Council member, I have worked to provide the correct tools and resources to our Police Department.from the San Diego Association of Governments on crime in the San Diego region. License plate readers are an effective tool in combating car theft, kidnapping and child abductions. The privacy of our citizens is safely guarded. There are several checks and balances in place to protect citizen privacy during the license plate reader process.
A: I believe we can save taxpayers money while implementing cleaner energy options. To do this, the city has just completed the solar panel installation project on our city buildings. We will continue to save money and create less pollution by transitioning non-public safety vehicles to 100 percent electric vehicles.
