In addition to economic factors, owners cited construction disruptions, retirement and other circumstances as reasons for shutting down.Downtown’s Rio Rio Cantina closed on January 13 after 34 years in business."Our lease was coming up, and we decided not to renew," said Patrick Jennings, controller for the San Antonio-based Paesano's restaurant group, which owned Rio Rio.
“Unfortunately, age is catching up to all of us who help lead the restaurant, and with that in mind, we made the difficult decision to close,” the partners and general manager of the restaurant said in a statement announcing the closure.St. Mary’s Strip nightspot El Ojo closed its doors Feb. 10. Operated by Danny Delgado and Co. — of Hi-Tones, Faust, Phantom Room, Lowcountry, Squeezebox and Buho — the 21-and-up club was known for spinning obscure punk, '80s goth and industrial music.
