It happened around 3 p.m. Monday in front of 200 Maujer Street in the Williamsburg Houses, once managed by NYCHA.
A group of kids were fighting and someone brought a gun. A 19-year-old man was grazed in the head and a 17-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen.
The school on Bushwick Avenue is three high schools in one building called the Grand Street Cmapus and the schools are Progress High School, East Williamsburg Scholars Academy and the High School for Enterprise Business and Technology. Neighbors who Eyewitness News spoke with didn't know which one of the schools the kids were from, but they say teens come into the apartment complex like they own the place, even trespassing on the roof and fighting in the nearby streets.
"They're fighting, they're smoking, I told the school safety they're here smoking - now they're being shot? They'll be on the roof," said neighbor Keyshia Srmemore. "It's like regular - they're always fighting like each other, and there is a McDonald's so in front of the McDonald's those kids are always fighting. I don't know the reason they're fighting," said business owner MD Alam.Eyewitness News saw someone placed in handcuffs and placed under arrests - it is unclear if that was related to this shooting.
