Court records show the men were arraigned last week on one count each of murder.According to an arrest-warrant affidavit, a witness told investigators Franklin “William” Martinez Fuentes, 25, approached several people the night of Nov. 20 in a parking lot of an apartment complex in Irving, including Cruz Mejia and Guevara Rubio.
The Dallas County medical examiner’s office confirmed the 25-year-old was shot by two different-size projectiles, the affidavit says. Grand Prairie police advised Dallas police to track a cellphone that was stolen during a robbery, and Dallas police located it in a stolen 2017 Nissan Altima in Irving, the affidavit says. Cruz Mejia was later photographed outside the car at Lake Cliff Park in north Oak Cliff.
On Jan. 4, police questioned Guevara Rubio and he said the arrest saved his life because he had overheard Cruz Mejia and another man talking about killing him, the affidavit says. He denied being involved in Martinez Fuentes’ death and said Cruz Mejia is an MS-13 hitman.
