In an update to the community alert at 8:50 p.m., police wrote that two people died and four were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Lanes of the Glenn Highway between Boniface Parkway and Muldoon Road will remain closed for several more hours after a four-vehicle collision, police say., all lanes of the Glenn Highway — both inbound and outbound — are closed between Boniface Parkway and Muldoon Road. Police wrote that they responded to the accident at 5:52 p.m.
Police wrote that drivers of a Dodge Challenger and Mitsubishi Galant both lost control of their vehicles traveling south on the Glenn Highway between Muldoon Road and Turpin Street. While the Dodge left the roadway and collided with a tree, the Mitsubishi collided with a Toyota Tundra that was also traveling south. Police wrote that both the Toyota and the Mitsubishi traveled over the median and into the northbound lanes when the Mitsubishi collided with a Chevrolet Silverado.
Police wrote that both occupants of the Mitsubishi were declared dead on scene, and that medics with the Anchorage Fire Department took both the driver and passenger of the Dodge and Toyota to the hospital. Police encourage motorists to make alternate travel plans for the next several hours as the Major Collision Investigation Unit tends to the scene of the crash.
Police wrote that they are asking the public to avoid driving on Boundary Avenue between Muldoon Road and Boniface Parkway. Drivers traveling south on the Glenn Highway are asked to enter Anchorage on Muldoon Road, and drivers exiting Anchorage are asked to divert to Boniface Parkway.Editor’s note: This article has been corrected to reflect that the Dodge and Mitsubishi were traveling south.
