One of two homes that collapsed along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Two homes along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina collapsed into the ocean on Tuesday, the second and third this year, according to the National Park Service.

The beach was closed along Ocean Drive to protect the public from hazards associated with the collapsed homes, including the possibility of additional collapses. “Unfortunately, there may be more houses that collapse onto Seashore beaches in the near future,” Superintendent of National Parks of Eastern North Carolina David Hallac said. “We proactively reached out to homeowners along Ocean Drive in Rodanthe after the first house collapse and recommended that actions be taken to prevent collapse and impacts to Cape Hatteras National Seashore.”
