The sprinter from Botswana clocked a time of 9.91 and celebrated well before the finish—in homage to his idol Usain Bolt.
While the early celebration could be deemed as disrespectful to his opponents, he says that it was not his intent.. “If somebody took it as disrespect, I’m really sorry. I saw the fans and everybody watching at home can enjoy the race—to remind them a little bit about what Usain Bolt did back in the days. He’s my idol—the person I look up to.”
Tobago’s win is a part of an impressive stretch of wins and records that he’s produced this season. At the World Championships in Oregon a couple of weeks back, he broke the then-U20 record in the 100m with his time of 9.94.of the 100 meters at the U20 World Championships, his time of 10.00 broke the championship record, which was then broken again with his 9.91 winning time in the event.
