Approximately 750,000 cans or 1.3 million pounds of Aptamil are being flown in from Ireland as a part of the ongoing Operation Fly Formula. TheBump BabyFormula
, Happy Family Organics and parent company Danone plan to import roughly 19 million 8-ounce bottles worth of Aptamil formula to the US. Arriving from Ireland, the Food and Drug Administration expects the formula to hit store shelves in July.
According to the FDA, the new shipment of Aptamil formula meets US safety standards and can be fed to most healthy babies. However, the formula may not be suitable for infants born prematurely or with low birth weight, infants with low iron levels at birth, or infants at risk for becoming iron deficient due to illness.
Parents who require unique hypoallergenic or sensitive stomach formulas may also have to wait a little longer for specialty formulas to restock. Abbott Nutrition, the leading producer of hypoallergenic formulas
