The Star Wars franchise's Force lightning is a deadly Force power typically used by powerful Sith Lords, but also practiced by other Force-users.
Throughout the Star Wars canon and Legends continuities, many notable characters have wielded Force lightning. The ability debuted in Return of the Jedi, shocking viewers with Emperor Palpatine’s horrifying display of corrupted Force power, nearly killing Luke Skywalker. Later Star Wars works would elaborate on Force lightning, its relation to the Force’s good nature as well as its dark side, and reveal a plethora of its practitioners.
15 Joruus C’boath The mentally unstable clone of the prequel-era Jedi Jorus C’boath, Joruus C’boath came into conflict with Grand Admiral Thrawn and later Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade in the Legends-era Thrawn Trilogy, by Timothy Zahn. C’boath initially attempted to kill Thrawn when the two met, but the Grand Admiral protected himself with a ysalamir. C’boath would later use Force lightning against Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade in their final conflict on Wayland.
12 Desann Desann was once a student in Luke Skywalker’s New Jedi Order in Legends, but he never truly had a chance to become a Jedi before his fall to the dark side. Joining the Empire Reborn , Desann trained in the ways of the Sith, despite not being a Sith himself. Desann also succeeded where Jerec failed, absorbing the power of the Valley of the Jedi, artificially increasing his strength.
9 Mother Talzin 2008’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series provided the current Star Wars canon with reimagined versions of the Dathomir witches. The Nightsister Clan Mother Talzin is a powerful dark side user, but her abilities differ from those of true Sith Lords. Talzin uses a form of Force lightning that is functionally similar to the Sith version but visually quite different, appearing green like the ichor used by other Nightsisters in the series.
6 Snoke The being known as Snoke was created by Palpatine on the obscure Sith world of Exegol, initially as a body for the undead Sith Lord to inhabit following his death in Return of the Jedi. Snoke was instead used as a puppet ruler of the First Order, one of Palpatine’s post-Imperial factions. Snoke was never a Sith, but he was nevertheless an extremely powerful unaffiliated dark side user.
