11 José Mendez First seen in the two-part TOS episode "The Menagerie," Commodore José Mendez served as the commander of Starbase 11. After Captain Christopher Pike was horrifically injured in an accident, Commodore Mendez oversaw his care on the Starbase. When Spock commandeered the Enterprise to take Captain Pike to Talos IV, Commodore Mendez worked with Captain Kirk to pursue Spock and eventually court-martial him.
8 Richard Daystrom Introduced in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Ultimate Computer," Dr. Richard Daystrom was one of the Federation's leading scientists and inventors. At the age of 24, Daystrom invented the duotronic computer system that most starships used in the 23rd century, including the USS Enterprise. When Daystrom appeared in "The Ultimate Computer," he was older and was trying to reclaim some of the renown he had achieved in his youth.
5 Harcourt Fenton "Harry" Mudd While Harry Mudd made his first appearance in one of the earliest episodes of TOS, "Mudd's Women," the character has also appeared in modern Star Trek. In one of Star Trek: Discovery's most fun episodes, "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad," Harry Mudd causes a time loop that keeps resulting in the destruction of the USS Discovery.
