A passenger opened an emergency exit door during a plane flight in South Korea, causing air to blast through the cabin and injure 12 people, officials said.
An Asiana Airlines plane is parked as one of the plane's doors was opened at Daegu International Airport in Daegu, South Korea, Friday, May 26, 2023. A passenger opened a door on an Asiana Airlines flight that later landed safely at a South Korean airport Friday, airline and government officials said.
Some people aboard the Asiana Airlines Airbus A321 aircraft tried to stop the man, who was able to partially open the door, the Transport Ministry said. The law bars passengers from handling exit doors and other equipment on board and provides for penalties of up to 10 years in prison, the ministry said.
A video apparently taken by a person on board that was posted on social media shows some passengers’ hair being whipped by the air blowing into the cabin through the open door.

Since the start of 2022, North Korea has test-launched more than 100 missiles, but none since it fired a solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile in mid-April. It says the tests are a response to expanded military drills between the U.S. and South Korea, but observers say North Korea aims to advance its weapons development and then wrest greater concessions from its rivals in eventual diplomacy.
