An 11-year-old has been arrested for allegedly shooting two 13-year-olds during an altercation at football practice, authorities in Florida said.
The incident took place around 8:20 p.m. Monday at a recreation center football field in Apopka, which is about 20 miles outside of Orlando, police said. The 11-year-old allegedly took a gun from a car and then fired one shot that hit both teens, according to Apopka police. One 13-year-old was shot in the torso and underwent surgery, and is in stable condition, Apopka Police Chief Mike McKinley said at a news conference Tuesday. The 11-year-old has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, the chief said, adding that "additional charges are probably pending against some adults."
"We shouldn't have 11-year-olds that have access to guns and think they can resolve a dispute with a firearm," McKinley said.At least 1,327 children have been killed and another 3,580 have been injured by guns so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
